St Ives Local Area

Over the years St Ives has attracted many visitors to its award winning beaches and quaint cobbled streets. Its quiet corners and rocky paths lend themselves to exploring. The eclectic mix of shops along with the varied array of quality restaurants has made St Ives a truly outstanding holiday destination.

Since the nineteenth century artists have been coming to work in St Ives and today there is still a thriving art community. The town boasts such cultural attractions as Tate St Ives, The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Leach Pottery. There are also many smaller galleries and studios who showcase a variety of artists many inspired by the romantic landscape and unique quality of light.

The stunning beaches offer something for everyone. Safe and sheltered Porthgwidden, the family atmosphere of Porthminster and Porthmeor with its surf school, golden sand and spectacular sunsets. There is also the picturesque harbour, a real suntrap and an ideal place to sit and relax. Nearby you will find many of Cornwall’s famous attractions.

St Michael’s Mount where at low tide you can enjoy a walk across the causeway to this iconic rocky island crowned by a medieval church and castle. The Minack Theatre, a uniquely situated open-air theatre on the cliffs at Porthcurno, near Lands End.

And of course Cornwall boasts a 300 mile section, almost 50% of the South West Coastal Path. The sheer variety of the Coastal Path means that there are plenty of gentle stretches as well as dramatic headlands, steep coastal valleys, busy harbours, intimate coves, and sandy beaches.
