The low craggy outcrop of Godrevy Island with its landmark lighthouse and spectacular seal colonies is make this a very special part of Cornwall. Islets and rocky stacks allow panoramic views along the coast and inland, a broad plateau behind the cliff slopes downward toward the valley of the Red River and a secluded woodland.

Description

Locally, this stretch of the AONB is known as North Cliffs. It is a curious landform that slopes away from the coast, south to the Red River. It contains dramatic coastal scenery formed of cliffs of unstable, soft, gritty slates. Low stone Cornish hedges are clothed by rough vegetation, whilst coastal heath interspersed with other coarse vegetation enhances the wildness of the abrupt cliff edge. Archaeological features include vestiges of prehistoric settlements and fortifications indicating early industrial archaeology along the Red River.
