    47th Cornwall Folk Festival

    In 2019 we have confirmed so far:

    * The Unthanks
    * Steve Knightley
    * Midnight Skyracer
    * Flats and Sharps
    * Noble Jacks
    * Wizz Jones at 80 Celebration
    * Mick Ryan's folk opera 'Here At * The Fair'
    * Granny's Attic
    * Krelys

    There’s plenty going on throughout the town. The renamed FAR Stage behind Wadebridge Wines showcases back-to-back talent from the South West, and proves again and again to be the place to hang out, with non-stop music throughout the day. Pub sessions and street music and dance in abundance make for one of Britain’s finest small festivals, perfect for the Bank Holiday’s last blast of summer. And for those wanting to attend workshops to improve their music and dance skills there are at least 9 workshops for instrumentalists, singers and dancers.

    There is camping near the centre of the town in the Bodieve campsite, and a local mini bus will ferry people back and forth to the festival!

    Now in its fourth decade, the former Wadebridge, now titled the Cornwall Folk Festival runs over three days in early August mixing local talent with acts from further afield to produce a varied programme of events to suit all tastes. The event draws musicians and fans alike from all over the UK to experience unique Cornish and Celtic musical heritage and dance culture.

    What happens?

    The festival takes place at various venues in Wadebridge and the whole town is alive to the sound of music. Not only is there an international line up of folk from Cornwall and  Brittany and the USA but you’ll also find singers and instrument workshops, street entertainment, tune sharing sessions and children’s games and face painting.

    How can you take part?

    Get in the groove and join in the fun at concerts, ceilidhs, sessions and workshops. Cornwall benefits from some of the best weather in the UK but the Folk Festival differs from all others in that there’s the added advantage of all venues being undercover and in the warm. So if it's raining outside there's no problem as you can kick back and listen to some great folk music whilst sampling local Cornish food and enjoying a wide choice of Cornish real ales and ciders.

Fowey’s location, perched above a magnificent harbour, provides a natural arena to watch the sailing from and in the town’s winding old streets you’ll find plenty of activities to entertain. There’s the traditional crowning of the carnival queen followed by the floral dance, you can compete in the crab catching and swimming competitions, experience the giant pasty ceremony, get caught up in the exuberance of the carnival, watch the magical torch light dinghy procession on the water and spend the evenings on the harbour listening to performances ranging from The Last Night of the Proms to rock.

    Cornwall Folk Festival - Wadebridge

    47th Cornwall Folk Festival

    In 2019 we have confirmed so far:

    * The Unthanks
    * Steve Knightley
    * Midnight Skyracer
    * Flats and Sharps
    * Noble Jacks
    * Wizz Jones at 80 Celebration
    * Mick Ryan's folk opera 'Here At * The Fair'
    * Granny's Attic
    * Krelys

    Cornwall Pride 2019 - Newquay

    Cornwall Pride 2018 is Bigger, Better and More Exciting!!

    An annual chance for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in Cornwall, their friends and families to get together and celebrate diversity. Cornwall Pride began in its current format in 2008 after a group of LGBT people decided to run a public open event for all to enjoy. It soon became clear that there was tremendous support for the organising committee.

    What happens?

    The Pride Parade is a celebration of Cornwall and diversity, the day starts with a parade through the streets of Newquay with floats and hundreds of people taking part. Always a spectacular sight is one of the UK's longest rainbow flags as it flows through the streets with music getting everyone dancing.

    We form up at Beach Road Car Park at midday (12PM).  If you are in the parade, it is advisable to arrive from 11am to make sure everything is in place ready for the parade to start at midday. There is still time to join the parade, which can be done on the Pride WEBSITE.  Hundreds will line the streets to watch as colourful floats, dancers and music head through the streets of Newquay. The procession will move from Beach Road to Gover Lane and then on to Bank Street. It will then move on to East Street, turn left into Bridge road and then left again into Trebarwith Crescent, from there it will move to the finale area of Killacourt, which it will reach at around 1pm.

There are stalls from organisations and groups within Cornwall and the UK offering advice and support as well as fun games to play, face painting and a whole lot more. There is a range of hot and cold food available as well as things to buy. There is an open space and well kept gardens so you can sit down and enjoy the live music in a safe friendly space.

    Fish Festival - Newlyn

    Newlyn Fish Festival

    We’re still finalising lots of details for 2019, the 29th annual Newlyn Fish Festival. Rest assured, it will once again be one of the biggest and best celebrations of the sea, seafood and fishing in the country.

    The organisers of Newlyn Fish Festival have announced the introduction of a fallow year in 2018 to enable them to develop the popular annual fundraiser for the Fishermen’s Mission into an even more dynamic celebration of the sea, Cornish seafood and Cornwall’s proud fishing heritage in 2019.

    Newlyn Pier and Harbour Commissioners (NPHC), led by harbourmaster, Rob Parsons are currently working hard to transform Newlyn Harbour into a modern, fit-for-purpose port that supports the development and sustainability of the Cornish fishing industry, and will launch its revitalised Fish Market later this year.

    This investment in new infrastructure will provide Newlyn Fish Festival – which has been staged annually for 29 years – with more space, improved facilities and enhanced insight into the Cornish fishing industry for the thousands of visitors who pour into the historic harbour and enjoy this action-packed, one day event on August Bank Holiday Monday each year.

    “Although we did not take the decision lightly to devote this year to revita;lising the festival for 2019 to dovetail with the exciting new developments at Newlyn Harbour, we are sure it is the right decision and will be of great benefit to those who take part and join us for this uniquely Cornish celebration.” explains Chairman of Newlyn Fish Festival ltd and Harbour Commissioner, Kevin Bennetts.  “I am immensely proud to witness the many positive changes that are taking place in the harbour, all of which will make a positive difference to the livelihoods of our hardworking Cornish fishermen, who put to sea in all weathers to catch and land some of the best fish in the world.  We plan to reconfigure the Newlyn Fish Festival to reflect this transformation and will return with an event that is even bigger and better in 2019.”

    “We are delighted that the festival has raised over £250,000 for the Fishermen’s Mission to date and to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the charity during 2018” adds Kevin Bennets.  “Newlyn Fish Festival ltd finances and helps maintain the harbourside meeting place for migrant and retired fishermen – The Man-Shed to which we have recently donated £10,000.”

    “We fully support this decision by Nelwyn Fish Festival Ltd and look forward to working in conjunction with them to revamp the event which raises much-needed awareness of the Cornish fishing fleet and funds for the Fishermen’s Mission.” adds Newlyn Harbour Master , Rob Parsons.

  • Paradise Park & Jungle Barn

    Summer of Parrots - Paradise Park & Jungle Barn

    Celebrate the colourful world of parrots at the home of the World Parrot Trust (WPT). Challenge yourself with our quiz, enjoy seeing a myriad of parrot species, plus opportunities to meet and learn about these intelligent birds and the amazing conservation work of Paradise Park and the World Parrot Trust.

    See rare Blue-throated and Great Green Macaws, Citron-crested Cockatoos, Sun Conures, Mitchell’s Lorikeets and many more in their aviaries at the Park. Don’t miss the Free Flying Bird Show at 3:30pm each day (weather permitting) featuring many close-up experiences with parrots, on stage and flying free up high and between visitors on the picnic lawn. Daily feeding times with the Rainbow Lorikeets give an opportunity to get hands on with these noisy, nectar-loving parrots.

    The founder of Paradise Park, Mike Reynolds, set up the WPT in 1989 with an ambitious vision: To help save wild parrots from extinction and to ensure that companion parrots live long, healthy and happy lives.

    Over the years WPT has grown to become a global force that moves quickly to aid urgent initiatives and support long-term projects. In the last three decades the Trust has led or aided conservation and welfare projects in 43 countries for 70 species of parrot. Today, WPT is one of the world’s largest member-based parrot conservation and welfare organisations with national branches in ten countries. Its educational print and web-based resources are utilised by tens of thousands of parrot enthusiasts each month, and its uniquely effective approach produces substantial and long-lasting results.

    The festival that has foodies flocking to the Isles of Scilly,
    Taste of Scilly, is back this September with a month-long celebration of the very best in food, drink and produce from across the five inhabited islands.

    The Taste of Scilly programme is packed with events sharing the unique low-food miles, slow-food culture of the famously unspoilt archipelago, 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall. Throughout September, there’s a fresh foodie experience to savour every day, from lobster feasts to Scillonian produce markets, from beach barbecues to pasty-making workshops, from evening supper boats to Taste of Scilly cocktails and cream teas.

    Throughout the islands, there’ll be lots of special Taste of Scilly offers and stories to be shared amongst all our passionate local producers, be they bakers, brewers, chefs, farmers, fishermen or fantastic foodie producers. There’ll also be wine tastings at Scilly’s two vineyards, and tours of micro-brewery Ales of Scilly.
