During opening hours, Tate St Ives visitors will be able to take control of the colour and intensity of the light installation and will be totally immersed in the colours produced. Participants will be able to rotate a sphere situated in the centre of the Tate St Ives Foyle Studio, creating cycles of colour and pulses of light. These colours will be simultaneously broadcast to the Loggia outside the entrance of the building, creating intrigue and curiosity for the outside world.

Outside of opening hours, the lights will be controlled via a microphone in the Loggia, where the colour and intensity will respond according to the pitch and volume of the participants’ voices. Following the switch on, every Saturday throughout the winter season Tate St Ives will hold open mic sessions where local choirs can take over the microphone. Visitors can listen to the choirs and be immersed in the colours, while drinking hot chocolate and mulled wine.

Tate St Ives in Colour - Tate St Ives

Tate St Ives in Colour is a new interactive and immersive light installation by Peter Hudson. The first project to be funded by Art Fund Museum of the Year 2018 prize money, it will light up the gallery in an ethereal glow, transforming the exterior of this award winning building.

Tate St Ives in Colour is a new interactive and immersive light installation by Peter Hudson. The first project to be funded by Art Fund Museum of the Year 2018 prize money, it will light up the gallery in an ethereal glow, transforming the exterior of this award winning building.
