Callington

Callington Picture 1

Callington is a small town with a population of around 4,500 situated in the beautiful area of south east Cornwall. It is 6 miles from the lovely Tamar valley and 14 miles from Plymouth. Once a busy mining area, its main industries are now farming and tourism.

The 15th century St Mary's Church is at the centre of the town. It is worth a visit to view the Celtic lantern cross in the churchyard and the ancient tombs of the Ayssheton and Willoughby families. Nearby is the Old Clink, originally a parish vestry room and two small rooms where the constable would detain petty criminals awaiting the visiting magistrate

The Honey Fair - Saturday 04 October 2025

WE ARE BACK! – make a note of the date in your diary – Saturday 4th October 2025

What’s it all about?
Callington Honey Fair is one of the largest street fairs in Cornwall, with hundreds of people visiting the Town to enjoy the one day event. The modern-day fair was historically on the first Wednesday in October, but has now moved to Saturdays and each year has a unique theme. That same theme is used for the Shop Window Competition and the Children’s Art Competition, which attracts entries from eleven primary schools in the region.

What happens?
As the only town in Cornwall that still retains a Honey Fair, the streets of Callington are given over to craft stalls, a Town Crier competition,  live music, a fun fair and those all important honey competitions. Always a friendly community event, many local charities and organisations participate and the Town’s churches join in with exhibitions.
