The definitive destination for Cornish art, artefacts, history, nature and culture.
The new-look Mineral and Nature Galleries at this Truro museum offer immersive, family-friendly visitor experiences, while the Heart of Cornwall Gallery shares the story of all that is unique and captivating about Cornwall.
The museum’s Art Gallery features work from many towering figures of Cornish, British, and European art history. And don’t miss the Discovery Trail, which features sensory points dotted around the galleries for an alternative way of experiencing a museum visit.
In the Ancient Civilisations Gallery, Greek, Roman and Egyptian cultures are explored in an interactive way. This gallery is home to the mummified remains of Iset Tayef Nakht, a priest from the Temple of Al Karnak, and his remarkable sarcophagus.
As well as the permanent galleries, the museum offers an exciting programme of exhibitions and events. During the school holidays, expect a host of free activities – from trails and challenges to children’s theatre and workshops.
This vibrant and award-winning regional museum is a great destination for a family day out. All aspects of accessibility, including those of SEN visitors, have been carefully considered and you’ll find a lift, changing facilities, space for buggies and coats, sensory backpacks, and a welcoming team of staff and volunteers to help you enjoy your visit.
There’s a wonderful café and art shop next door, and the historic building is close to Truro train and bus stations. Admission is £10 which covers a whole year of return visits, while under 18s and members are free.

This February half term, we’re inviting the next generation of creatives to come and find fresh inspiration here at Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery! See our amazing art collection in a whole new light, as we team up with Kids in Museums for Art School… In A Trail!
This free spotter trail takes you on a journey around our galleries where you’ll find interesting things to discover at every turn. Each stop invites children and their grownups to approach art in fun new ways.
Let’s talk about art that brings you joy! And together let’s see what happens if you really slow down and look closely… Can we find an image that helps you see the world differently? Which artwork would you most like on your bedroom wall (no, you can’t take one with you!)? Which picture would you most like to live in? Which inspires you the most?
The trail is a brilliant introduction to the world of art, created in collaboration with the makers of hit podcast Talk Art and publishers Hachette.
Complete the activity sheet to receive your Art School sticker! There’s also a creation station in the Nature Gallery where you can make your own masterpiece, plus family craft activities celebrating everyday nature heroes in the Wild Wonders exhibition.
The museum is the place to be for budding creatives this half term! Don’t forget, under 18s visit free of charge, while adult Annual Passes are just £10 for limitless return visits in a year.
Kids in Museums have a special drawing competition to get involved with as part of Art School… In A Trail. Share your artwork on Instagram or BlueSky with the hashtag #ArtSchoolTrail and #Cornwall Museum, and tag @kidsinmuseums and @cornwall_museum, for a chance to win some fantastic prizes, including a Double National Art Pass Plus Kids and a signed copy of Art School (in a book)!
