    This exhibition shares the story of the Cornish Unit home. Initially built as post-war social housing, many of these prefabs still exist today.

    30,000 units were built by Selleck and Nichols, a subsidiary of English China Clays, to combat the housing crisis after World War 2.

    Although problems occurred with the concrete, are there lessons from the design and build that could be learned today during another period of housing uncertainty?

    NEW ALL DAY JUNGLEBARN PLAY from 10am to 5:30pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays up to 13th February. 

    Plus the Late Afternoon JungleBarn Play session from 3pm to 5:30pm which is available from Wednesday to Sunday each week. 

    Free parking and WIFI and fabulous fun whatever the weather. With giant slides, challenging soft play and toddlers’ zone with ball fountain. Plus the JungleBarn has a great snack bar with tasty hot dogs and cheeseburgers, or snack on hot crunchy crisps and treat yourself to a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows.

    Under 3s FREE - (Please ensure you book tickets for your under 3s as well.)

    For best value, buy a Great Value Return Ticket on your first visit. Our Winter Return Tickets are £6 per person and can be used for the Park and JungleBarn play Centre from 10am on any day we are open up to 27th March 2026.

    To play on the equipment please wear socks, and clothing to cover your arms and legs while on the slides.

    • Penguin Feeding Time: 11:00am and 2:30pm - Listen to the knowledgeable Keepers as they share insights about the penguin colony and watch these endearing birds being fed in their pool located in the Walled Garden.
    • Lorikeet Feeding: 12:15pm - Purchase some nectar and join in the fun of feeding these lively, mischievous parrots in the Rainbow Aviary, situated within the Walled Garden.
    • Meet & Greet Session: 1:30pm (weather permitting) - Meet some of the remarkable star birds which could include ‘Frank’ the Eagle Owl, talkative ‘Popeye’ the Double Yellow-headed Amazon Parrot, or vibrant ‘Barney’ the Blue and Gold Macaw.
    • The JungleBarn Indoor Play Centre, a fantastic venue that ensures endless fun whatever the weather! Features a special toddlers’ area and massive multi-level soft play. Children can enjoy a good scramble around with an array of exciting features such as Spinning Steps, Astra Slide, the Big Blue, Drop and Double Drop slides, ladders, climbing ropes, Squeeze rollers and Roller Poles, X Changer, Fireman’s Pole, Corner Climber, Tube slide, Swing over nets, and more!

    Home to over 1,200 birds including spectacular parrots, penguins, Red-billed choughs, eagles, a very cute otter family, beautiful red squirrels, and tiny harvest mice. Meet mini donkeys, pygmy goats, sheep and guinea pigs in the Fun Farm – all adorable family favourites.

    Daily Events include:

    • Otter Feeding Time: 10:30am and 3:00pm - Watch the adorable otter family, including mum Pippin and dad Katarni, along with their teenage pups, during feeding times.
    • Penguin Feeding Time: 11:00am and 2:30pm - Listen to the knowledgeable Keepers as they share insights about the penguin colony and watch these endearing birds being fed in their pool located in the Walled Garden.
    • Lorikeet Feeding: 12:15pm - Purchase some nectar and join in the fun of feeding these lively, mischievous parrots in the Rainbow Aviary, situated within the Walled Garden.
    • Meet & Greet Session: 1:30pm (weather permitting) - Meet some of the remarkable star birds which could include ‘Frank’ the Eagle Owl, talkative ‘Popeye’ the Double Yellow-headed Amazon Parrot, or vibrant ‘Barney’ the Blue and Gold Macaw.
    • The JungleBarn Indoor Play Centre, a fantastic venue that ensures endless fun whatever the weather! Features a special toddlers’ area and massive multi-level soft play. Children can enjoy a good scramble around with an array of exciting features such as Spinning Steps, Astra Slide, the Big Blue, Drop and Double Drop slides, ladders, climbing ropes, Squeeze rollers and Roller Poles, X Changer, Fireman’s Pole, Corner Climber, Tube slide, Swing over nets, and more!
    • PLUS, the 'Paradise Island' outdoor playground with climbing towers, a slide into the 'river', and the chance to ride a rocking dolphin.
    • Zebedee the Jungle Express Train is out on good weather days. Visitors can board the train near the picnic lawn and enjoy two circuits around the house (not the entire Park).     30,000 units were built by Selleck and Nichols, a subsidiary of English China Clays, to combat the housing crisis after World War 2.

    Although problems occurred with the concrete, are there lessons from the design and build that could be learned today during another period of housing uncertainty?
