The Montol Festival - Penzance
The Montol Festival takes place on Monday, 21st December 2026 in Penzance, Cornwall.
• Date: Monday, 21st December 2026
• Location: Penzance, Cornwall (Streets, Market Place, and local venues)
• What it is: A revival of traditional Cornish midwinter and winter solstice customs, featuring guise dancing, mummers plays, and fire ceremonies.The afternoon and evening features a sequence of traditional ceremonies and parades, beginning with the Sundowner Parade at 4:21 PM and traditional dancing in Greenmarket at 4:45 PM. Festivities continue with the Summoning of the Sun at 5:30 PM, the Progress of the Sun parade at 6:00 PM, and the Burning of the Sun at 6:45 PM. The evening concludes with the traditional Yule log (Mock) procession down Chapel Street between 9:15 and 9:30 PM.

Traditional features like the twenty-five foot real Cornish Fir tree in the town’s square and swathes of street Christmas light displays will help the community with their festive countdown! Live entertainment and music will be on the stage in Commercial Square from 1pm onwards, before the lights are switched on at 5pm. And Father Christmas will also be joining us in town – visit him for FREE to tell him your Christmas wishes.

Come along and join us as Helston’s Christmas season officially starts on the last Friday of November with the switching on of the Christmas Lights. The lights are strung across the main streets and are well-known as one of the best displays in Cornwall.
Experience the party atmosphere and enjoy the evening market, with stalls selling everything, including mince pies and mulled wine at our Rotary stall – with all profits going to local charities. Visit Father Christmas in his grotto and listen to Helston Town Band, who play leading up to the countdown.

Christmas Evening Market - Bodmin Railway
Feel the magic of traditional Christmas as brass bands fill the platforms with festive music. Look out for our much loved Judy Bagnall 0-4-0 saddle tank who will be making a guest appearance on platform 2 throughout the festive season.
The glow of festive lights, beautifully decorated platforms, the sound of trains arriving at the station and the nostalgia of Christmases gone by create an atmosphere you simply can’t find anywhere else. This festive season, Bodmin Railway will be transformed into a traditional Christmas destination, with experiences for the whole family.
Climb aboard our much-loved Santa Trains for a magical journey filled with festive cheer, family traditions and a very special visit from Santa.
Kicking of our festive season, join us for our Christmas Evening Market on 27th November, where the railway comes alive after dark with festive stalls, seasonal treats and plenty of Christmas spirit, a great place to start your Christmas shopping.
For a cosy winter journey, our Mince Pie Trains on 9th & 15th December offer the perfect opportunity to sit back, enjoy a festive treat and experience the railway at Christmas time. Or, for something completely different, step aboard our Christmas Murder Mystery on 11th December for an evening of intrigue, entertainment and festive fun.
